In the late 1940’s, this Town and Pulp Mill complex were constructed as a green field project in the heart of a rich natural resource area along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  A significant water diversion project (at Long Lake) had been completed 10 years earlier  with the flow reversed from the Arctic watershed (North) to the Lake Superior basin(South).  This new resource was developed into a 51 Mw power generation facility in 1948 to support the Terrace Bay Town and Pulp Mill needs.
