Looking Across Lake Michigan to Chicago
Thunder Bay will be hosting the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Annual Conference in June of 2014. The conference will be hosted by Marquette, Michigan in 2013. Mayors and other officials from major cities like Chicago, as well as smaller municipalities like Nipigon, have attended past meetings. Former Thunder Bay Mayor Lynn Peterson once chaired the organization. The Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Cities Initiative takes a strong interest in environmental matters, indeed the front page of the website for the Initative states:
Mayors of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative are a prominent voice in efforts to protect and restore the vitality of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River and improve the quality of life for the residents of the region.
