Congratulations to Mayor Gary Nelson, the Town of Red Rock and Hatch Mott MacDonald Inc. Consulting Engineers on an excellent open house to display plans for construction of a secondary treatment plant for municipal wastewater in Red Rock. Congratulations also to everyone in the Red Rock/Nipigon area who voiced support over many years for secondary treatment in both towns. This includes past and present members of the Public Advisory Committee and Remedial Action Plan team for Nipigon Bay. Environment Canada, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources are all supporters of the Nipigon Bay Remedial Action Plan.
The Dec. 5th event was well-attended with lots of questions and discussion between residents of Red Rock/Nipigon and Hatch Mott MacDonald/Town of Red Rock representatives. Implementation of secondary treatment is a major item in remedial action plans to protect and enhance the environment in and around Nipigon Bay on Lake Superior.
The Red Rock plant will be similar to the secondary treatment facility recently constructed in Nipigon and will utilize rotating biological contactors. Nine million dollars from the Build Canada Fund and $450,000 from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will be utilized for the project.
Hatch Mott MacDonald will be forwarding an electronic version of the open house handouts which provide technical details of the secondary treatment project.
